Establishment as Native Reserve 875

[edit]

This here source[1] shows that 850 acres in Whakaraupō were established as Rapaki Native Reserve 875 as part of the Port Cooper Purchase in 1849. This information could be included in the second paragraph to flesh out this article's history of Te Rāpaki-o-Te Rakiwhakaputa.

Te Rāpaki-o-Te Rakiwhakaputa/Rāpaki/Rapaki

[edit]

Currently the article is titled Te Rāpaki-o-Te Rakiwhakaputa as per if official naming according to the NZ Gazetteer[1]. However the region is referred to in-text as Rapaki. Given that Te Rāpaki-o-Te Rakiwhakaputa is quite long winded to use every other sentence but Rapaki is somewhat inauthentic, I suggest that the region be referred to in text as Rāpaki. Rāpaki is just as concise as Rapaki while being more reflective of the Māori and official naming.

Agree. Also the rāpaki is the spelling of the garment refered to in the full name and without the macron means a different thing. Pakoire (talk) 08:24, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
